Sharon Cathey

Social Studies Teacher

 

Sharon Cathey has been teaching 13 years at CCA, 10 years teaching history, 3 years English and 3 years of Bible. She holds a State of New Mexico Teaching License in Secondary Education, Social Studies and English. She has a Master's Degree in Speech Communication and a UNM; Bachelor's Degree where she Majored in  Political Science and Minored in U.S. History. She is a treasured staff member.

Cheryl Childs

English | Drama Teacher

 

Mrs. Cheryl Childs graduated in English Education from Northwest Nazarene University, cum Laude, in 1974. Upon graduation, she and her husband, Kent, moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where he completed a Ph.D. program in Materials Science. Mrs. Childs substituted in the area schools and worked as an editorial assistant for Cooking for Profit, a local magazine. The Childs' them moved to Wappingers Falls, NY, where Mrs. Childs taught for the Nazarene Bible College in York Town and Fishkill. She also pursued graduate studies in English Literature at the University of New York, New Paltz.

 

Moving to Bloomington, Minnesota in 1993, Mrs. Childs spent the next several years raising her family, teaching Sunday School and women's bible studies in her church. After arriving in New Mexico, in 2002, Mrs. Childs directed the high school drama productions for Hope Evangelical Church before joining CCA faculty in 2006.Mrs. Childs' husband, Kent is scientist with Sandia Labs. They have two sons.                       



 

Lisa Harmon

Science Teacher

 

Ms. Harmon began a degree in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 1971 but was unable to finish the final year because she moved to Germany as an Air Force spouse.  She lived in Germany for 9 years, and taught German and English as a Second Language through the Air Base Family Services.  She also lived in Turkey for 2 years, where she substituted at the American High School and also taught ESL.

 

Returning to the US, she graduated with a BA in German from Mercer University in Macon, GA in 1993.  She was Head of Circulation of Mercer’s Tarver Library and taught German for Mercer from 1994 to 2002. In 2002, she moved to Albuquerque with her husband, Jim, who is an electrical engineer, and entered the University of New Mexico to study Nutrition.  She graduated Summa cum Laude with a BS in Nutrition in 2007, completed an internship and became a Registered Dietitian in 2008, and received a MS with distinction in Nutrition with a concentration in biochemistry in 2010.  She has taught Nutrition at UNM, first as a Teaching Assistant and then as a Part-time Instructor, since 2008.

 

Ms. Harmon has been a Christian for 41 years and has taught Sunday School and Bible Studies for most of that time.  She and Jim are active in Calvary Chapel East and are currently the area representatives for Koinonia Institute, an on-line Bible School associated with Chuck Missler’s Koinonia House.  They have 3 children and 6 (soon to be 7) grandchildren.



Dave Moss

Mr. Moss graduated in West Texas from Pecos High School in 1978. He then attended Abilene Christian University until the fall semester of 1979 and transferred to Midland College from 1980.  Mr. Moss moved from Midland, Texas to Albuquerque, N.M. in 1986 where he met his future wife at a non-denominational Bible study and married Debbie Geck in 1987. After apprenticing in the electrical trade, he earned his JE 98 Journeyman’s. License for Electrical in 1988 and worked in the construction trade until 1993.

 

He is the proud dad of two daughters and one son; Krista Moss, 21; Kayla Moss, 18; and Michael Moss, 16.  Mr. Moss and his family have attended this Calvary Chapel since 1990. He was ordained as an Assistant Pastor in the summer of 1992 and served full – time as an Assistant Pastor at Calvary Chapel East and Directed Children’s Ministry from 1996 – 1997. Mr. Moss has also been charged with leading the Children’s Worship for twelve years. He and his wife, Debbie, have been Marriage Ministry Leaders in the Church for ten Years.   Mr. Moss served as P.E. Coach at Calvary Christian Academy K4 – 12th grade from 1992 until 1998. In 2007 – 2010 he taught Bible 7th – 12th Grade and oversaw building maintenance. This year (2011– 2012) Mr. Moss teaches 5th, 7th and 8th Grade Bible and Guitar along with being the Disciplinary Principal.
